Core Production Process of Colored Coated Coil Material

  The core manufacturing process for color-coated coil stock is predominantly continuous and automated, encompassing three key stages: substrate pretreatment, coating application, and curing.

  Substrate pretreatment is the foundation of quality assurance. Using cold‑rolled steel sheet, galvanized sheet, or galvalume sheet as the base material, the surface must undergo degreasing, alkaline cleaning, water rinsing, and passivation to remove oil, rust, and other contaminants. Chemical conversion treatments—such as phosphating or chromate passivation—are then applied to form a dense conversion coating, enhancing both coating adhesion and corrosion resistance. In some processes, laser texturing is used to treat the surface of the strip‑handling rollers, further improving coating uniformity.

  Roll coating is the predominant method for applying coatings. Using precision roll‑coating equipment, primer and topcoat are applied in distinct layers: the primer is typically maintained at 5–7 μm to provide corrosion protection and adhesion; the topcoat, at 10–20 μm, determines color saturation and weatherability. For high‑end products such as printed steel coils, a roller‑based color‑registration printing step is added after the topcoat, enabling intricate patterns through precise multi‑color overprinting. With ink layer thicknesses ≤1 μm, strict control of registration accuracy and ink adhesion is essential.

  The curing stage directly affects coating performance. Traditional solvent-based coatings are cured by hot-air circulation baking at temperatures of 200–230°C, with a curing time of approximately 2 minutes. In contrast, the emerging powder color-coating technology employs infrared radiation curing, completing the cure in under 30 seconds, thereby significantly boosting production efficiency and achieving zero VOC emissions. After curing, the coated film is cooled by air to ensure no deformation during winding, ultimately yielding color-coated coil stock with uniform thickness and stable performance.
